An early morning collision with a deer claimed the life of a Whiteville motorcyclist Saturday.
Terry Walker, 55, of Whiteville was killed when his 2023 Harley Davidson struck a deer on U.S. 701 near Beaverdam Road, according to Sgt. Jeremy Freeman of the N.C. State Highway Patrol. Walker and a female passenger were thrown from the northbound motorcycle. The wreck was reported at 2:33 a.m. by another motorcyclist who was with them.
The motorcycle came to rest on the west side of the highway.
Walker was transported to Columbus Regional and transferred to Novant New Hanover. The female passenger was taken directly to the CRHS helipad and airlifted to New Hanover. She is listed in stable condition.
