One Charged in Dog Beating Death

A teenager has been arrested in the September video of a dog that was beaten to death.

Nicholas Demarion McGirt, 18 was arrested on a single charge of animal cruelty and released on an unsecured bond of $5,000. His address was listed as Yam Lane, Tabor City on detention records. He was taken into custody and released Friday afternoon after processing.

McGirt is alleged to have beaten a chihuahua dog to death Sept. 24 on Sarah’s Avenue, Nakina. A juvenile videoed the killing, according to sheriff’s reports. The video was posted to social media and later removed.

The owner of the dog said she let the dog out for a bathroom break on Saturday night, and the dog never returned. She found the dog dead in. A nearby field the next morning.
