A Duplin County man who kidnapped his estranged wife and killed another man will spend 27 to 34 years in prison.

Demecus McMillan, 29, was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Tiffany Powers Monday in Bladen County. He was arrested in August 2021 after shooting and killing Christopher Clemmons, 21, and kidnapping Tasheena Shandelle McMillan, 30, at a home on Lighter Knot Road in the Kelly community of Bladen.

The Bladen Sheriff’s Office and District Attorney Jon David said McMillan took the woman to Pender County, where he dropped her off.

Deputies from Duplin, Pender and Bladen were searching for McMillan when Wallace Police found him in his home there several hours after the shooting. Mrs. McMillan was found safe by Pender deputies.

McMillan was found guilty of first degree murder and first degree kidnapping.
