December 13, 1949 ~ January 10, 2024 (age 74)
Ronald Hugh Thompson, 74, of Whiteville passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2024. He was born December 13, 1949 in Robeson County, the son of the late George Bradley Thompson and the late Minnie Mae Lewis Thompson. His adopted parents are the late Calton Thompson and Ella Lee Thompson.
Mr. Thompson was the owner/operator of Ronald’s Tire and Brake Service from 1979 to 2014. He was an avid golfer, vintage car collector, gardener and farmer. He not only loved mowing grass, but also the people that he mowed for. He was a member of Columbus County Law Enforcement Association.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Simmons Thompson of Whiteville; a daughter, Rhonda Gail Thompson (Michael) of Whiteville; sister, Sarah Ward of Whiteville; “Poppa” Ronald’s best buddy/best friend, Carter Lee; multiple nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his adopted parents; and three brothers, Marvin Thompson, James Earl Thompson and Ralph Thompson.
Funeral service will be conducted 2:00 pm Monday, January 15, 2024 at Peacock’s Chapel with Dr. Thomas Ward and Anthony Fipps officiating. Interment will be in Peacock’s Columbus Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 pm on Sunday, January 14, 2024 at Peacock Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Benny Ward, Landon Simmons, Dustin Graham, Michael Graham, Stephen Underwood and David Higgins.
