A chase involving a stolen vehicle in Scotland County came to an end near Boardman Thursday.

Bryan Wade Gunter, 47, of Leesville, S.C., was jailed under a $275,000 secured bond, according to a release from the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office. Gunter was charged in Laurinburg with armed robbery, felony larceny of a motor vehicle, felony fleeing to elude arrest, possession of a stolen vehicle, and possession of a firearm by a felon. Other charges are pending in the case.

Capt. S.R. Dover of the Scotland Sheriff’s Office said a subject reported being robbed of a Chevrolet Equinox on Airport Road near the Laurinburg-Maxton Airbase on Thursday. A detective en route to the call saw the suspect vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, the release said.

Gunter then allegedly fled at a high rate of speed through Robeson County into Columbus. He was pursued by state troopers as well as deputies from Scotland, Robeson and Columbus counties.

The chase came to an end near the Boardman interchange at U.S. 74 around 3:30 p.m.

Gunter allegedly reached speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour during the chase, passing a stopped school bus, and ignoring stop signs. He also crossed the center on U.S. 74 and drove on the wrong side for a period, a report from the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office said.

Traffic was blocked at the interchange for a time while the car was recovered and Gunter taken into custody.
