Prospective jurors reported for duty this morning (Monday) at the Columbus County Courthouse for the first degree murder trial of Jamal Green.
Timothy Cain of Chadbourn and Green were arrested in March 2021 after the kidnapping and execution-style slaying of Jacqueline Landreth of Clarkton. The woman’s body was found beside a road near Chadbourn weeks after she was reported missing on Feb. 8, 2021. She had been shot twice in the head and her throat slashed. She was recovered Feb. 24, 2021.
Volunteers spent days searching Columbus and Bladen counties for the missing woman. Detectives said that information developed during the investigation led to the discovery of the body.
Witnesses in Cain’s trial Landreth was killed after the two men took her truck and personal belongings. Cain was found guilty earlier this year, and sentenced to life without parole.
Green was arrested in Elizabethtown shortly after Cain was taken into custody. On jail documents, he said he was homeless and lived in Lumberton.
A third suspect, Amanda Williamson of Cerro Gordo, was charged as an accessory after she reportedly allowed the men to hide evidence at her home. She remains to be tried.
The case is expected to last ten to 14 days.
