The alleged shooter in Thursday’s murder of a 17-year-old girl is in New Hanover Regional after being shot.

Sheriff W.A. “Bill” Rogers said Jeffery Fowler is considered the main suspect in the 9 p.m. shooting at a family home on Wagon Wheel Road. Rogers said the deceased girl’s name was not immediately released because she was a juvenile.

Rogers said investigators are still piecing together the entire incident, which he described as a domestic. He said it hasn’t been determined exactly who shot Fowler.

“We’re still working on that,” he said.

The shooting death was the second in the county in less than seven days. Seven-year-old Antonio Maultsby Jr. was shot and killed Saturday night in his home on Braswell Road. A suspect is still sought in that case, and a $31,00 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest.
