The second defendant in a brutal 2021 murder was sentenced to life in prison Wednesday.

Jamaal Omar Green, 37, was found guilty of first degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon in the 2021 killing of Jacqueline Landreth. Green and Timothy Cain II kidnapped Landreth, stole her truck and cell phone before shooting her in the head and slashing her throat, according to testimony.

Landreth was reported missing from her Clarkton home on Valentine’s Day 2021. She was last seen on Feb. 8. Law enforcement, family and volunteers searched for Landreth for more than a week.

Her body was found in a ditch off Klondyke Road Feb. 24. Her truck was found at the Cerro Gordo home of Amanda Williamson the same day. Williamson was charged with accessory after the fact, and is awaiting sentencing.

Green was arrested in a traffic stop in Elizabethtown March 3, 2021.

Timothy Ray Cain (CCSO)

Timothy Ray Cain (CCSO)Cain was found guilty in Columbus County Superior Court in January, and sentenced to life in prison.

Superior Court Judge Tom Lock presided. Assistant District Attorneys Shirley Smircic and Rebecca Olsen represented the state. Teresa Gibson was defense counsel.

District Attorney Jon David praised the prosecutors in the Green case, who also handled the Cain trial in January.

“I could not be more proud of them,” David said.

Green’s last address on jail reports said he was homeless in Lumberton.

Cain still faces trial for the 2022 assault of Joshua Johnson in the Columbus County Detention Center. He and three other inmates – Michael Lance, Darius Washington and Kwanaine Bellamy—allegedly assaulted Johnson for an extended period of time before detention officers intervened. The assault was recorded on security cameras. Johnson was in critical condition for weeks after the attack, which prompted a lawsuit against the county.
