County Investigating Two Shootings

Warrants have been issued for a man who allegedly threatened a woman, struck her father and stole a handgun.

Columbus County deputies were called to 1062 Miller Road just before 6 p.m. Tuesday, a report said. Larry Jenerette said that he had accompanied his daughter,  Ollie, to retrieve some personal items from the home. Bernard Jacobs allegedly arrived at the home and began arguing with Jenerette, who became frightened and reached for his handgun.

Jacobs then allegedly punched Jenerette in the face and wrestled the gun away from Jacobs before pointing it at the woman and threatening to “kill her in the yard.” He then left the property with the SCCY 9mm handgun, the report said.

Deputies said Jenerette has an injury on his face consistent with being struck. He was transported to an area hospital where it was confirmed he had a fractured nose.

The investigation is continuing.

A shooting in the Buckhead community is also under investigation by the sheriff’s office.

Donna Faye Freeman called 911 around 9:30 p.m. after a man she recognized went to her home uninvited. Freeman told the man to leave, the report said, and as he pulled out in a vehicle, he allegedly fired around 14 shots at Freeman and her home.

No one was injured, the report said, but two shots hit the home. Seven people including several children were inside at the time.
