The victims in Wednesday’s collision in Roseland were a retired Randolph County deputy and his wife.

The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that John Davie Garner, 55, and his wife Alisha, 50, were killed in the wreck. They were the fourth and fifth county road deaths this year.

The collision occurred at the intersection of Old Stake and Rough and Ready roads just before 3 p.m. Mrs. Garner was driving an SUV that pulled into the path of an 18 wheeler.

RCSO said in a social media post that Davie retired as a lieutenant in 2021 after 22 years with the department, and was a part-time bailiff. The couple was returning from vacation when the wreck occurred.

“Rest easy good and faithful servant,” the RCSO said in a Facebook post. “We’ll take it from here. Please keep their daughters, their families, friends, and coworkers in your thoughts and prayers.”
