Sheriff Identifies Deputies in Shooting

Five deputies remain on administrative leave after a shooting in Nakina May 15.

Henry Allen Zartman, 66, of South Carolina, died in the 10:45 p.m. incident, according to the State Bureau of Investigation. Zartman was shot multiple times in a gunfight with deputies responding to a domestic disturbance and shots fired at a home on Seven Creeks Highway.

Deputies Alex Meeks, Timmy Inman, Zachary Moody, Taylor Hammonds and part-time deputy Franklin Blanton were not injured in the shooting.

Neighbors reported hearing someone ordering another person to drop a firearm just before the shooting occurred.

Rogers said the SBI and District attorney’s Office were immediately contacted after the shotting, as is standard when any officer discharges a firearm. SBI Spokesperson Angie Grube said the investigation is ongoing.
