Mrs. Annie Kathryn Vance Cole, age 91, passed away June 9, 2024, at Lower Cape Fear Lifecare Angel House in Whiteville, NC, following a brief illness.
Mrs. Cole, born September 23, 1932, in Fair Bluff, NC, was the daughter of the late Lillian Bartley Vance and the late Thomas David Vance. Annie Kathryn was a graduate of Fair Bluff High School and furthered her education at Flora McDonald College. She married the love of her life, Garlen Lester Cole, on September 24, 1950, and they enjoyed 57 years of marriage.
Most recently, Annie Kathryn was a greeter at the Lumber River Visitors Center. During her work career, she was employed by Scott Motor Company, A. H. Powell & Sons Insurance Agency, and The Town of Fair Bluff.
A lifetime member of Fair Bluff Baptist Church, Annie Kathryn loved crocheting and enjoyed sharing her creations with family and friends. She also delighted in traveling across the U.S., from New York City to Las Vegas.
She is survived by her children, Kathryn Sides (David) of Cheraw, SC, Les Cole (Joyce Floyd) of Nichols, SC, and Gregg Cole (Renee) of Cerro Gordo, NC; three grandsons, Bartley Sides (Katy), Davidson Sides (Leann), and Joshua Cole (Kalli); and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Annie Kathryn was predeceased by her husband, Garlen Cole, and her four brothers, Tom, Bill, Jack, and Bud Vance.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at 11AM in the Fair Bluff Baptist Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior in the Christian Life Center at the church.
Burial will follow in the Powell Cemetery immediately following the service.
