Emily Parks Grice has filed to run for the Columbus County District One School Board seat. She was endorsed Monday by Randy Coleman, who announced he will not run for reelection.

Coleman was not the first incumbent to step out of the November election. Former Whiteville City School Board chair Kandle Rogers, who represents District Three, said she is not running for the seat she has held for 12 years. Jackie Ray Pierce has filed to run for the District Three board position.

As of July 10, no school board races on the fall ballot are contested.

Incumbent Greg Merritt as among the first to file, submitting paperwork to run again for the District Four seat in Whiteville.

Steve Long is on the ballot for the District Five county school board seat. He lives near Tabor City.

Two candidates have filed for the Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisor’s board. Gary Simmons of the Chadbourn area and Walter Strickland of Cerro Gordo will be on the fall ballot for the two seats open there.

The filing period ends Aug. 5.
