Ervin “Tinker” Evans, 85, of the Crusoe Community, died on September 24, 2024, at the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in Wilmington, NC.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at New Britton Baptist Church in Ash, with Pastor Sterling Sarvis officiating. Burial will follow in the Evans Cemetery in Crusoe.
The visitation will be from 2:00-2:45 p.m. prior to the service on Tuesday, at the church.
Tinker, as he was lovingly known, will be remembered for his quick-wit, sense of humor, and his affectionate way of calling everyone “Sug”.
Ervin was born on March 13, 1939, son of the late Melton Rockwell Evans and Lillie Carolina Long Evans. He was also preceded in death by his son, Michael Kim Evans; daughter, Renee E. Nelson; siblings, Nora Lee Formyduval, Mildred Simmons
Ervin was employed in the construction industry, where he held many supervising positions over the years, including relocating the Cape Hatteras Light Station in 1999.
The surviving family includes his son, Legrant Evans (Marilyn) of Swansboro; “adopted daughter”, Carolyn Sayre; three grandchildren, Chapel Evans, Austin Evans, and Jessica Datillo; special friends, Trent Evans and Tracy Evans; many great-grandchildren; host of loving nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
