Gladys Norris Jernigan, 100 of Whiteville, NC, passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2024. She was born on January 25, 1924 in Loris, SC to the late Lucian and Viola Norris. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 55+ years; Rudolph Jernigan; brother; Ford Norris and sisters; Bert Hickman and Pat Harris.
Gladys was a longtime member of Trinity Baptist Church. After her Lord Jesus and family, she loved her Senior Ladies Sunday School Class. A wonderful group of ladies who worshiped and shared each other’s lives for several decades. A marvelous testimony to the love of Jesus was shown among them as they supported each other through the loss of husbands, illnesses, and the struggle of getting older. Gladys’ Sunday school class ministered so much to her after the untimely death of her husband Rudolph. A breast cancer survivor, Gladys for many years made small pillows for other women who were a part of a Breast Recovery Group battling breast cancer.
Many thanks to the staff at Shoreland Health Care and Retirement Center, Whiteville, NC for all the kindness and attentiveness shown to Gladys during her years there. You made a tremendous difference in her quality of life. We cannot thank you enough. Special thanks to Olga Puckett, Nurses Debbie and Peter Grundt who became family and comfort to Gladys and her children.
She is survived by daughters, Teresa Jernigan of Leland, NC , Sandra Russo and husband Peter Russo of Wilmington, NC, son, Brian Jernigan and wife Anne of Raleigh, NC granddaughters, Amy Brown of Wilmington, NC Allison Brown of Conway, SC, and great granddaughters; Madison Brown and Sophia Brown.

Gladys, you finally were able to “GO HOME” and are now in the loving arms of Jesus Christ and rejoined with Rudolph and your Mama and Daddy.
