James Harry “Harry” Hayes passed away peacefully on October 1, 2024, in Wilmington, North Carolina, at the age of 73. Born on February 16, 1951, in Whiteville, North Carolina, Harry spent a life dedicated to his family and passions.
Harry found fulfillment in working with his hands as a skilled carpenter and builder. His craftsmanship touched many lives and left a lasting legacy. Outside of work, Harry was an avid Harley Davidson enthusiast. He cherished moments playing poker and shooting pool with his friends, and he relished the excitement of NASCAR racing. Above all, Harry loved life, treasuring the time spent with his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, James Henry Hayes and Doris Anderson Hayes, his sister Carolyn Huckaby, and dear nephews Jeremy Chad Causey and Zeke Ferguson.
Harry leaves behind a loving family: two children, Wendy Hart and her husband Jimmy of Stately, NC, and Jamie Hayes of Siler City, NC; three devoted sisters, Nancy Hayes of Mebane, NC, Tammie Ferguson and her husband Chip of Burlington, NC, and Sylvia Costin and her husband Danny of Leland, NC; five cherished grandchildren—Summer, Skylar, Jacob, Selena, and Chase; his aunt Juanita Baker of Wilmington, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Harry’s life will take place at 2:00 PM on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at Wilmington Funeral & Cremation Chapel, with a time for family and friends to visit beginning one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Harry’s honor to the American Kidney Foundation.
