Vivian Thompson White Lewis, age 100, died peacefully in her home surrounded by family on November 2, 2024. She was a Columbus County native and lived in the New Hope Community with four siblings and parents, Clarence and Annie Mae Thompson.
In 1942 she married Hanson White and together they raised four children in the Western Prong Community. Vivian was a member of Western Prong Baptist Church where she played the organ for seventeen years. She worked with her husband Hanson on their farm and then for a few years at Southern National Bank until they developed Land O’ Lakes Golf Course in 1970. They owned and successfully operated this business for over seventeen years until retirement. Hanson often said that he believed Vivian was the secret weapon to the business’s success as she did the work of three people and treated everyone like a friend. After Hanson’s passing Vivian later married William “Bill” Lewis and moved to downtown Whiteville. After Bill’s passing Vivian married Robert “Bob” Johnson. She resided in downtown Whiteville until she passed.Funeral services will be held at Western Prong Baptist Church on Tuesday November 5th at 2 pm with burial following in Western Prong Cemetery. The Reverend Willard McPherson will officiate the services. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at McKenzie Mortuary on Monday, November 4th from 6-8 pm.
She was preceded in death by parents Clarence and Annie Mae Thompson, sister; Oka Thompson Negley, brothers; Eugene Thompson, Bernard Thompson, and Roger Thompson. She was also preceded in death by husbands Willard Hanson White and William “Bill” Lewis; and children, Robert White, Charles White, and Patricia White McPherson.
She is survived by Robert “Bob” Johnson; daughter, Phyllis White Cron (Frank) son-in-law Billy McPherson daughter-in-law Ruth White sister in law Carolyn Thompson eleven grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Pallbearers are Robert White Jr, Alan C. Thompson, Willy Armstrong, Thomas Malenfant, Andrews McAngus, and Jerry White.
