Operation Nutcracker led to the arrests of 20 suspects on heroin, methamphetamine and theft charges Tuesday. The primary goal of the operation was to combat illegal drug activity and reduce property thefts throughout the county, Sheriff Bill Rogers said. Suspects from across the county were taken into custody. The sweep involved all divisions of the sheriff’s office.
Marty Soles will serve life in prison without the possibility of parole for the 2020 murder of Tony Clayborn in 2020. The Texas man was found shot to death in the roadway in Green Acres. Soles was captured by U.S. Marshalls in South Carolina. The jury deliberated three hours before returning the guilty verdict.
A Sweet Discovery Bakery in Fair Bluff will have a visit from jolly old St. Nick on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. The bakery is at 1001 Main Street, Fair Bluff. Everyone is welcome to come get a sweet treat and see Santa before he heads back to the North Pole.
A Christmas tradition for 15 years will light up the skies through January 6, 2025. Since 2009, Corey Lee’s family has decorated their home at 7020 New Britton Highway E. with what may be the largest Christmas display in Columbus County. There are more than 50,000 lights as well as blowups and other attractions. The Leesville Show is free. The lights go on daily at 5:00 p.m., and shine until 11:00 p.m.
