Commander (CDR) Debra Josephine Justin, US Navy Retired (Ret) of Elizabethtown, NC was born on Friday, September 24, 1954 and passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2024 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Completing her journey of 70 years.
A tribute service will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, January 4, 2025 at Wesley’s Chapel Church: 2409 Old Peanut Rd, Elizabethtown, NC 28337, with Pastor Warren Hill officiating.
A distinguished commander, Debra made history as the first woman to lead a fleet overseas in the Persian Gulf. It was a land fleet in Bahrain. She also was in charge of Y2K at the Central Intelligence Agency “CIA” . Her military service exemplified her dedication, courage, and commitment to her country.
Beyond her military accomplishments, she enjoyed singing spiritual music, writing stories, and stargazing.
She was predeceased by her parents, Wilton Francis Johnson and Almira Perdue Johnson, and her brother, John “JJ” Johnson.
Debra is survived by her loving sister, Cynthia A. Johnson of Elizabethtown, NC, along with relatives and friends.
