Fire Guts Tabor City Burger King

Tabor City’s Burger King was heavily damaged in an early morning fire Friday (Dec. 13).
Tabor City Fire Chief Jeff Fowler said workers were preparing to start the day just after 6 a.m. when they began smelling smoke. As the smoke filled the kitchen, they evacuated the building and called 911.
Fowler said when he arrived on the scene, “there was heavy smoke visible.”
Firefighters used Tabor City’s new aerial truck to get above the roof of the building, where they saw smoke and flames through the roof. Williams Township, Roesland, Fair Bluff, and Loris firefighters responded. Loris also brought a ladder truck. Tabor EMS and the Fire Marshal were also standing by.
Fowler said the fire caused significant damage to the kitchen and office area. He said a member of Burger King management staff said the building may be demolished and rebuilt.
