Barbara Scott Morrison

January 18, 1944 – December 31, 2024

Barbara Scott Morrison 80, of Lake Waccamaw moved into eternal life with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 31st, 2024. She was the daughter of Woodrow R. and Anilou Crafford Scott and was born in Newport News Virginia on January 18th 1944. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband William (Bill) Morrison, who she married in 1962.

After working at a variety of jobs, Barbara earned her bachelor’s degree from UNC-P and her master’s degree on a graduate fellowship at Wake Forest University. She completed 36 additional post graduate level hours of study. She taught in public school for 12 years and at the collegiate level for 23 years, retiring from Bladen Community College. She particularly enjoyed planning and leading study groups to Washington D.C., New York City, and to twelve countries in Europe. She believed strongly in the community college system and proudly helped organize and served in the North Carolina Community College Faculty Association, with her final position in the organization being that of Vice President of Internal Affairs.

With her husband William, she felt led to serve in the church, spending many years as a Sunday school teacher. After William’s passing, she sensed a renewed call to serve at the Whiteville Missionary Alliance Church.

 

Barbara is survived by her sister, Joan Layman of Mount Airy, NC; daughter, Mary Morrison of Greenville, NC; grandson, Steven Barnhill of Greenville, NC; grandson, Terry Barnhill Jr. of Wilmington, NC; granddaughter (by marriage), Amber Barnhill of Wilmington, NC; great granddaughter, Aurora Barnhill of Wilmington, NC; and nieces Cathy Lusk (Dave) of Ararat, VA; Kayla Siebert (Jon) of Richlands, NC; and Hannah Dalton (Tyler) of Mt. Airy, NC.

 

A celebration of life and legacy will be held at 2:00 pm January 4th 2025 at Christian and Missionary Alliance Church at 623 Warrior Trail Rd in Whiteville, NC, with Pastor Ron Mitchell officiating.

 

Visitation with the family will be from 1:00-2:00 pm January 4th 2025 in the Church Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, Boys & Girls Homes of Lake Waccamaw, or your local community college.
