Jean Montie Roland, age 95, passed away at his residence on Thursday, January 23, 2025. Jean was born in Asheville, NC on November 13,
1929 to the late Hobart McKinley Roland and Nora Bell Anglin Roland. In addition to his parents, Jean is preceded in death by a brother; Warren Roland (Doris), a sisters; Marie Roland, Virginia R. McOrkle (John), Floy R. Wright, brother’s in law; Hershel Williams, Arnold Brown and Ronald Suggs and son in law; Robert Bullard.
Jean retired from the United States Postal Service as Postmaster. He also retired from the Army Reserve as a Command Sergeant Major of the 108th Division (TNG). He was a former member of the Asheville Rifle and Pistol Club. He was a member of the American Bloodhound Club, active in working with Scout Troop, collecting rocks and jewelry making. He loved his bloodhounds and photography. Jean was a member of Lebanon Methodist Church.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 71 years; Margaret W. Roland, a daughter; Deborah R. Bullard of Ocean Isle Beach, NC, a son; Montie W. Roland (Connie) of Sanford, NC, sisters; June R. Williams of Leicester, NC and Shirley R. Brown of Marshall, NC5 granddaughters; Lauren B. Caplan (Michael) of Chicago, IL, Lindsay Bullard of Denver, CO, Tracey Bullard of San Diego, CA, Shelby R. Pleines (Adam) of Apex, NC, Avery Roland of Boone, NC, one step grandson; Jonna Girard of Raleigh, NC, several nieces and nephews, a special sister in law; Ann W. Suggs of Ocean Isle Beach, NC.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Lebanon Methodist Church, 9237 James B. White Hwy. S., Whiteville, NC with Rev. Jerry Dalton officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 1:45 pm prior to the service.
