Johnnie Preston Gore, age 75, of Whiteville (Old Dock), passed away at his residence on Friday, February 7, 2025. Preston was born in Columbus County on April 23, 1949 to the late Elbert Rozier Gore and Rowena Clemmons Gore. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers; Ervin “Bud” Gore and Ricky Gore and his sister; Wanda Kaye Ward.
Preston owned and operated his own plumbing business for years and was working up to the moment he passed away. He loved to go coon hunting, in fact he went hunting the night before he passed. Preston enjoyed playing the guitar. He will be missed by countless people in Columbus County.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 55 years; Katherine “Kathy” Jacobs Gore, two daughters; Rosearita Gore Penny (Jason) of White Marsh and Joann Gore Wilson (Joe Wilson III) of Old Dock, grandchildren; Samantha Inman (Christopher), Garrett Wilson, Devan Penny and Riley Wilson, a great grandchild; Madelyn Inman, two sisters; Virginia “Gin” Formyduval of Old Dock and Elsie Faulk of New Hope, and three brothers; Tommy Gore of Nakina, Danny Gore and Craig Gore both of Old Dock.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Old Dock Church with Rev. Colton Reaves and Rev. Ken Sides officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, February 10, 2025, from 6:30 – 8:30 pm at McKenzie Mortuary.
