Monday our entire area is under the threat of severe weather. The National Weather Service says there is a possibility of severe thunderstorms, high winds and tornados from the afternoon through the overnight hours. The good news is the system, will bring us a little bit of badly needed rain, but not enough to knock down the drought.

 

Statewide Burn Ban on all Open Burning remains in effect. All burning permits have been canceled. No new permits are being issued at this time. Any outdoor burning can result in a high citations and court costs, the fire marshal’s office said.

 

Marion Flowers will serve 23 years in prison on federal drug charges. Flowers was arrested after a joint investigation by the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office, Whiteville Police and the SBI in 2021. He has an extensive criminal history including robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.
