Brews and Bites: Food Truck Fun with Zekos International

By Justin Williamson

I love food trucks! They always bring some level of new experience with each new vendor. As I have alluded to in previous editions, it’s Forrest Gump’s Box of Chocolates: You really never know what you’re gonna get.
I had the pleasure of eating from the Zekos International truck over the weekend. They were at an event on Saturday where I was playing, so it was finally time to get an order placed with these guys.

First off the truck (trailer) looks great. Clean design with bold colors and easy to read graphics make a nice statement to who they are and what to expect. Their menu was displayed clearly and easy to decipher. Service at the counter was quickly able to explain a few things I had questions about and the ordering process went smoothly.

Menu is unambiguously Middle-Eastern, sporting selections of falafel, kebabs, veggie wraps and bowls, shawarma, with both chicken and beef entrees. I can’t name another place within 40 miles that offers this type of menu. (Fayetteville is the closest that hits this menu.) So, they are definitely hitting a unique flavor package.

For my meal on Saturday, I went with the Chicken Shawarma bowl with veggies and rice. It was very good. I found the flavors in the chicken robust, but not overwhelming. A good hit of onion and garlic mixed with other flavors that really suppressed the strength of those two, left a very harmonic vibe. The sauce applied to the top of the dish really added a nice moisture to the texture.

I ordered chicken, which I know is not always easy to keep moist, as it’s a lean protein. This dish wasn’t dry or lacking in flavor in any way.

The rice was tender and proved a wonderful vehicle to carry the layers of flavor on. Chicken, onion, pepper, and squash all cooked well and seasoned proved a really solid meal. Filling and enough for two servings.

I ate on this plate for lunch and dinner Saturday. The price was really fair at $12.50. I ordered a drink to go along and got out for $15 and change after taxes.

Rating: 5/5 Encore-Worthy!

This food truck has a great product. A streamlined menu that offers an exotic taste that still hits right in the zone for most folks in

Zekos menu is clearly posted and easy to read, making for a no-surprises food truck experience.

our area. Not scary or weirdly flavored in a way that would be out of place in any community. Choosing to serve nuggets and wings with fries also gives something for everyone ordering from them. Quick service and friendly discourse was very nice to deal with from the customer’s point of view.

If you see this bold blue trailer parked in the county, feel safe to run up and get a plate from them.

I hope this review has taken the fear out of getting that piece of chocolate. Zekos International Food Truck is hitting bombs and ready to serve you.

As always, get out and try something new!

Thanks for reading my column here on CCN. I appreciate your feedback and look forward to hearing from you folks. Happy Eating!
