Whiteville Police have charged a man and woman for the shooting at a downtown gathering April 13.
Kapri McMillian, 34, was already in custody for the killing of Jaquise Blanks later in the morning after the shootout at Func-tionz, a now-closed business on Madison Street.
Samantha Crawford, 34, was arrested Wednesday (today) in Lumberton, according to a press release from Whiteville Police.
McMillian and Crawford are charged with discharging a firearm at an occupied vehicle. Crawford was held under $3,500 secured bond, and $25,000 was added to McMillian’s bond for the new charge.
The shooting on Madison Street came after an altercation at Func-tionz, which is now closed. The business was operating as an illegal gathering place, according to the fire marshal. Around 2 a.m., a large crowd was inside the business in the 900 block of Madison when an altercation broke out and spread into the crowd outside. Shots were fired from several locations, causing damage to cars and buildings.
There were no witnesses at the scene when WPD arrived minutes after the shooting began. Func-tionz was ordered closed that day due to safety violations.
Around 10 a.m. that same morning, Cribbs was traveling north on U.S. 701 Business (Powell Boulevard) when someone began shooting at his vehicle in the area of the cookout restaurant. Cribbs was struck and crashed into another vehicle at the intersection of Powell Boulevard and Washington Street. He was transported to an area hospital, where he later died. Traffic was closed for hours after the killing.
The press release WPD did not say if the shootings were related.
Whiteville Police Chief Paul Rockenbach thanked his investigative division for their work on the case, as well as Lumberton Police for their assistance in Crawford’s arrest.
Both the Cribbs murder and the shooting at Func-Tionz are still under investigation.
