Victim ID’d in Sunday Street Shooting

Investigators on the scene of a shooting and wreck that blocked Washington and Powell in Whiteville Sunday morning.

 

Whiteville Police have identified Jaquez Cribbs as the victim in a Sunday shooting that blocked two major roadways for hours.
Cribbs was shot to death around 9 a.m. while driving north on JK Powell Boulevard, WPD Chief Paul Rockenbach said. He apparently crashed into another car at the intersection of Powell and Washington. The victim’s car had multiple bullet holes in the side. The driver of the second vehicle was not seriously injured.
The crime scene stretched down both sides of JK Powell Boulevard and distance from the intersection. Traffic was blocked most of the day, with vehicles being detoured around the scene.
Cribbs’ age and hometown were not available.
The State Bureau of Investigation and Whiteville Police are working together on the case. Anyone with information about the killing is asked to call 910.642.5111. You may leave an anonymous tip.
