The sheriff’s office said an anonymous tip submitted via the “Say Something” app claimed that a student had an “AR-15” rifle and was planning a mass shooting at Whiteville High School on Monday.

 

Lance Sandlin has been charged with murdering the unborn child of Shania Perry. Sandlin was arrested in September for the April death, along with his wife Emily and his ex-wife, Lori Flowers. Perry disappeared in April 2024. Her body has never been found.

 

A Saint James man on house arrest told deputies that an angry ex girlfriend allegedly took the charger to his ankle monitor. The $25 monitor turned up missing after the woman allegedly went to Cary Graham’s home May 2.   The sheriff’s office is investigating.

 

Twelve law enforcement officers from Columbus County will be honored at the sheriff’s office memorial park Friday as part of National Police Week and Peace Officers Memorial Day. The earliest recorded death of a local LEO – the killing of Constable Jesse Simon Long – was never solved.
