Tabor City native Frank Perritte will be honored with a bridge dedication at Lake Tabor on June 13. Perritte was a Tabor City Police Officer before going to work for the Department of Motor Vehicles. He was killed in Cumberland County in a car crash in 1995 during the pursuit of a suspect.

 

A state food benefit program has sent out $121 million in preloaded debit cards to help families with dependent children. The SUN Bucks cards will activate on May 22. Each is worth $120. Parents of eligible children will be notified by mail. Several more rounds of SUN Bucks will go out this summer.

 

Whiteville City Council on Tuesday approved a plan to bring tax collections back in house. Columbus County Commissioners voted to begin charging municipalities 3%  per parcel, a move that would have produced more than $135,000 a year in revenues for the county.

 

A Holly Ridge man has died of injuries sustained in a head-on collision in Tabor City. Phillip Grant crossed the centerline on U.S. 701 and struck an eighteen wheeler head on in the early morning hours of May 5. He died the next day at Loris Hospital.
