A 9 foot Alligator tangled traffic on N.C. 130 for more than an hour Saturday before Wildlife officers, the highway patrol and deputies could capture the saurian. It was struck by two vehicles and later died. A Sam Potts Road couple had a gator make itself at home in their front yard on Sunday, prompting another call to Wildlife officials.
Columbus County Board of Education could soon be elected in partisan primaries in the general election. Representative Brenden Jones has sponsored a bill establishing partisan elections for the school board. Terms would remain at four years, and as each seat expires, it would be filled through a partisan primary race and general election vote.
A larceny suspect discovered the hard way that he picked the wrong home Sunday. Victor Parris, age 27, is being held under no bond on a charge of attempted larceny. The South Carolina man allegedly attempted to break into the home of Whiteville Police Officer Maria Cruz Sunday morning just after 8:00 a.m. He was held until the sheriff’s office arrived.
