
A stolen dump trailer allegedly used by a wanted man led to a weeks-long investigation and his arrest May 2.
Skyler Ray Long, 34, of 135 Lettie and Lennox Rd., Nakina, is being held without bond on charges of resisting an officer, assault on an officer, two counts of trafficking in opiates (Fentanyl), possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, possession of methamphetamine, maintaining a dwelling for drug activity, possession of a firearm by a felon, and being a habitual felon, according to detention center reports.
The sheriff’s office said in a press release that detectives and narcotics investigators started an investigation into Long’s activities when a stolen dump trailer he allegedly used was found in Nakina. They obtained a search warrant for a building on the property, the release said, and discovered meth, “a trafficking amount of fentanyl,” and a firearm inside, the release said.
Long was already wanted b law enforcement, the release said.
“Detectives learned that Mr. Long had outstanding indictments for habitual felon, possession of a firearm by a felon, and narcotics trafficking,” the release said.
Detectives from investigations and narcotics teams, along with the Heavy Enforcement Action Team (HEAT), traced Long to the Lees Lake community on May 2. Hr was located on Waltz Lane off Honeyfield Road.
“When deputies approached, Mr. Long attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended without further incident,” the release said. At the time Long was allegedly in possession of meth and trafficking amounts of fentanyl.
“This operation is a direct representation of my decision to align our Criminal Investigations and Narcotics Divisions,” said Sheriff Bill Rogers. “Sadly, many of the crimes investigated by these two divisions intersect, but by uniting their efforts, we are better equipped to tackle these challenges head-on and get dangerous individuals off the streets.”
