Law enforcement and parents scrambled to East Columbus Junior-Senior High Monday after a prank call about a school shooter.
The sheriff’s office reported that a male juvenile called 911 and asked for immediate assistance, claiming there was an active shooter on campus. Deputies and Police were en route to the school when the School Resource Officer confirmed there was no disturbance on campus.
Columbus County Sheriff’s Detectives determined that the phone was made by a student and the student was still on campus. The juvenile was located and turned over to school administration, who contacted the child’s parents.
Officials said there was never an actual threat at the school. It was the second school shooter prank call in a month. Two Whiteville High School students were suspended and could face legal action after using an app to report a supposed shooter at WHS.
