Three Superior Court cases resulted in jail time for defendants last week.
Special Superior Court Judge Quinton McGee handed down the sentences during the April 28 session of court.
Jacqueline Spivey, 68, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver narcotics, conspiracy to sell and deliver, possession of drugs in a detention center, and attaining the status of habitual felon. The Gillard Road woman was first arrested during a major narcotics investigation in 2020, and later jailed again on drug charges. While serving time in the county detention center in July 2024, conspired to smuggle drugs inside.
In an unrelated case, Lonnie Fields, 44, of Fairmont entered a guilty plea to charges of felony child abuse inflicting serious injury, assault with a deadly weapon on a government official, and driving while impaired. He was sentenced to 63 to 100 months in prison, and ordered to participate in the advanced Supervised Release Program.
In October 2023, Fields sped through a checkpoint on Silver Spoon Road because he had narcotics in his automobile. Fields crashed his car, injuring a woman and a two year old passenger.
Fields had to be cut out of the car by firefighters. He was carrying marijuana at the time. Fields was transferred to New Hanover Regional. The child and female passenger were also hospitalized.
It took a jury less than an hour to find James Henry Smith guilty of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Smith, of Fairmont, was sentenced to 43-73 months in prison. He shot a man during an argument over a tax sale in May 2022.
