Cory Finch is the new police chief for the town of Lake Waccamaw. The veteran and longtime officer replaced Scott Hyatt, who retired last week after 26 years at the position.

Finch previously served in the military and worked for the Whiteville Police. He officially took office last week, as Hyatt was bid farewell by town staff and officials.

Hyatt led the effort to have every member of the Lake Waccamaw Police certified in radar operations. He also introduced the first hybrid police car to Columbus in 2018. The retired chief is a Boy Scout leader and avid fisherman. He served as a Military Policeman (MP) in the U.S. Army.
