Lonnie Lane Lee, age 65, of Whiteville went home with Jesus on Monday, June 16, 2025 in Atrium Health Cabarrus in Concord, NC. His wife and son were with him, each holding his hand, as he crossed over. He was born on March 30, 1960 in Columbus County Hospital. He was the son of Fred and Rosa Lee, both deceased.
Lonnie was sole owner and operator of Lee’s Auto and Body Shop. At age 8, he began his training in the trade with his extremely talented father being his teacher. Lonnie worked in farming and tire sales before joining his father at Fred Lee’s Body Shop in 1980. Lonnie was a skilled and talented young man and soon branched out and expanded his expertise opening his own business in 1981. He was a perfectionist and was proud to stand on his work quality and completion. He was a honest businessman. His business grew as his customers referred others to him. Lonnie retired in 2024 due to illness. His career spanned 43 years.
Lonnie enjoyed farming, gardening, and lawn maintenance. He excelled in these areas due to his being a perfectionist. To say he loved the outdoors is an understatement. He enjoyed participating in the outdoor sports of baseball, horseshoe throwing, volleyball, deer and coon hunting, and fishing. His favorite was fishing. He was ready to cast a line in the water anytime he had a chance.
Lonnie was a coach in the minor division of the Nakina Dixie Youth Baseball League for several years. He loved working with children and believed all children on his team should be allowed to play regardless of ability or talent. He and his players won the Nakina League tournament twice and went to the All-Stars games twice.
Lonnie was a member of Old Dock Methodist Church. He was dedicated to his church and served on several committees through the years. He took much pride in the youth choir in the 90’s and assisted with travel of the youth choir members as they sang various churches and attended events.
Lonnie was a kind, caring man with a loving heart for his family and friends. He was a devoted, loving husband and dad. He was always ready to help with anything in times of need. He was diversified in his abilities of repair and was eager to get the job done right.
He is survived by the love of his life, wife of 45 years, Pam Byrd Lee and his son and best buddy, Corey Lane Lee of the home. The three enjoyed spending time together cherishing the wonderful life that God had given them. A beautiful blessing! He is also survived by remaining surviving family members he loved and cherished, a brother, Raymond Lee of Whiteville: sisters, Doris Watts (Royce) of Whiteville, Virgie Stubbs (Paul) of Hallsboro; Sister-in-laws, Judy Young (Richard) of Hallsboro, Belinda Lee of Whiteville; and brother-in-law, Roger Byrd of Lake Waccamaw. Lonnie has 2 nieces, Paula Edge (Billy), and Paula Garrell (Bob); 6 nephews, Robbie Hilbourn, Tony Stubbs, Ricky Young (Melissa), Chester Byrd, Brandon Young (Valerie), and Christopher Lee who was like a son. He had many great and great-great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Bonnie Sweet, his brother, Graham Lee, his sister-in -law Janice Byrd, and his niece Stephanie Stubbs.
His service will be held at Old Dock Church on June, 20 at 3:00 pm. Reverend Colton Reaves will officiate the service. Burial and graveside service will be held at Old Dock Church cemetery. Visitation will be at Peacock Funeral Home on Thursday June, 19th from 6:00-8:00pm.
