
In Loving Memory of Margaret Ella Jenkins Greene
June 10, 2025 — Age 90
Margaret Ella Jenkins Greene went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 10, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was a remarkable woman who touched many lives with her kindness, dedication, and vibrant spirit.
Born to the late Colonel H. Jenkins and Mildred E. Jenkins, Margaret carried forward a legacy of strength and compassion. She was preceded in passing by her beloved husband Eugene T. Greene, brother Henry Jenkins, and sister Dorothy Strickland.
Margaret was an active member of Cerro Gordo Baptist Church, generously sharing her time and talents through the choir, Sunday School teaching, women’s ministry, and various church committees. Her spirit of service inspired many.
A passionate educator, Margaret devoted her career to nurturing young minds. She taught kindergarten at Cerro Gordo Elementary in the Columbus County School System, where she found joy and purpose shaping future generations. A proud alumna of Cerro Gordo School, Southeastern Community College, and Pembroke State University—where she graduated with honors “cum laude” in Early Childhood Education—Margaret’s dedication extended beyond the classroom. She was a member of the North Carolina Retired Teachers Association and the National Education Association, always advocating for quality education.
Margaret’s warmth extended beyond her professional life. She was a loving mother and homemaker, cherishing her children and their families as her greatest joy. She was also an avid gardener, serving as President of the Cerro Gordo Garden Club, and a talented seamstress who expressed her creativity through her craft.
She leaves behind a loving family:
• Son: Jeffrey T. Greene (Laura)
• Daughters: Kimberly Greene White (David) and Karen Greene Prince (Michael)
• Grandchildren: John David White (Ashlee), Jeffrilyn Greene Stephens (Jared), Rhett White (Sarah), Jenna Redwine (Adam), and Harrison Prince (Bailey)
• Great-grandchildren: Isabella White, John Alex White, Alden Redwine, and Gabriella Stephens
Margaret’s legacy lives on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and many friends who were fortunate to know her.
A celebration of Margaret’s life will take place at Cerro Gordo Baptist Church on Saturday, June 14, 2025. Visitation begins at 10:00 AM, followed by the service at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Greene Cemetery in Cerro Gordo N.C.
Active pallbearers are Brian Jenkins, Wade Greene, Rick Benton Jr., Tracy Blackwell, Chad Herring, Greg Cole,Evan Strickland and Lynn Fairfax.
