Here’s today’s Bottom Line
High pressure will remain in control through Wednesday before losing its grip on Thursday. This means dry weather, seasonable temps, and relatively low humidity levels for this time of year.
A deep southwesterly flow becomes established on Thursday. Meanwhile, an area of low pressure is likely to develop just off the east coast of Florida. The track of this low is a little bit uncertain; if it stays offshore, it may develop weak tropical or subtropical characteristics. If it nudges just a bit inland, it’s just another area of low pressure. Either way, it will be responsible for an uptick in shower and thunderstorm activity Thursday afternoon and Thursday night.
That becomes a memory by Friday, but shower and thunderstorm chances continue through the weekend thanks to several weak impulses rotating over the Carolinas, culminating in a dying frontal boundary over the area by Sunday. Summertime heat and humidity likely through the weekend.
TROPICS: The 2025 Hurricane Season has begun. June typically sees tropical development across the Gulf of [whatever-you-want-to-call-it] and off the southeast coast of the US, as cold fronts stall and dissipate offshore. Systems that form in the month of June are usually rather weak and more “subtropical” in nature.
OUTLOOK: A non-tropical area of low pressure is forecast to form near or offshore of the southeast coast during the next 2-3 days. If the system remains offshore, the low could gradually develop some subtropical or tropical characteristics. Regardless of the outcome, about all we can expect here in Columbus County is an increased threat for showers and thunderstorms Thursday afternoon through Thursday night.
