Sharon Lee Summersett, 72, of Lumberton and formerly of Whiteville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 17, 2025, in the Lower Cape Fear Angel House, surrounded by family.
Lee was born on February 10, 1953, son of the late Homer Lee Summersett and Betty Louise Walker Dawson. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Sylvia Ann Hobbs and his step-mother, Darthy Summersett.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at Chestnut Street Methodist Church in Lumberton.
Funeral service will held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at Worthington Funeral Home, where Lee’s body will lie in state from 2:00-2:45 prior to the service. He will be laid to rest in the Summersett Cemetery in Whiteville.
Lee attended Whiteville High School, graduating in 1972. Upon his graduation, he furthered his education at Louisburg College, receiving an associate’s degree in business. Once again, in 1977, Lee furthered his education at Atlantic Christian College where he received his bachelor’s degree in business education. Upon receiving his degree, Lee went on to work at Well’s Automobile and later taught school in Lasker, NC. It wasn’t until 1981 that Lee discovered his true passion- being a funeral director. He attended Gupton-Jones School of Mortuary Science, beginning a prosperous career in the funeral industry; he served in numerous counties all over Eastern North Carolina. Lee also enjoyed attending worship at the Chestnut Street Methodist Church in Lumberton.
The surviving family includes his step-sister, Linda Prince and husband, Ed, of Whiteville; special cousin, Linda Lee Shaw of Whiteville; special niece, Tina Blackwell and husband, Anthony, of Chadbourn, and their precious son, Akin Blackwell, whom Lee loved and adored; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
