Community Organizations Hold Back to School Events

Several facilities and community organizations are doing their very best to ensure students in Columbus County have everything they need to head into the 2025-2026 school year. If your child doesn’t have all their supply shopping done, be sure to check out some of the events planned over the next couple of weeks. There’s even a little fun to be had by families before the summer comes to an end. CCS Whiteville Campus

Classical Charter Schools of Whiteville will have an extravaganza for their students on their elementary campus on Friday, Aug. 8. The event will run from 5-7 p.m., and there will bouncy houses, games, food trucks, and face painting. Take the opportunity to meet the staff that make the school days go around. The school is located at 35 Bacons Way in Whiteville.

CCHD Event

The Columbus County Health Department will be hosting a feel-good event this year for students and their families. On August 8, the department will hold their ‘Back to School’ celebration from 1-4 p.m. The afternoon will include games, prizes, free school supplies, and health information for the whole family. The facility can be found at 304 Jefferson Street in Whiteville.

Farmers Market BTS Day

The Columbus County Farmers Market will be holding the Back to School Day and Family Health Festival on Aug. 9. There will be games, activities, vendors, refreshments, free health screenings, and a school supply giveaway. They are open every Saturday from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. at 132 Government Complex Drive in Whiteville. Waccamaw Siouan BTS Bash

Join Waccamaw Siouan STEM Studio the ‘Back to School Bash’ on Aug.16 at the Waccamaw Siouan Tribal Grounds from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. The event will host an elders lounge, water slides, food trucks, free diapers for the little ones, and a backpack and school supply giveaway.

The day will also feature STEM Activities and parent seminars from The Path (Yauh) Tutoring Program, an ICP-TEAMS Program, and the Columbus County Indian Education Program. Come learn about free programs that will help your youth excel in education.

This event is made possible by the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation, the NC Commission of Indian Affairs, the Nature Conservancy, National Fish and Wildlife Federation, Waccamaw Siouan STEM Studio, and the Waccamaw Siouan Tribe. The grounds can be found at 7239 Old Lake Road in Buckhead.
