The so-called ‘mini-budget’ approved by the legislature and signed by Gov. Josh Stein provides funding for 40 new DMV license examiners, in hopes of reducing wait times and complaints with the beleaguered agency.
The N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles (NCDMV) hopes to shorten lines and wait times at driver license offices across North Carolina with the new group of examiners. Hiring began this week.
Applications for the examiners are open on the DMV Careers webpage. To speed up recruitment, NCDMV will host job fairs statewide in the coming weeks, where candidates can learn about the roles and apply on-site. Find a list of recruitment events here.
“We thank the legislature, governor, and auditor for their support in creating these vital positions,” said NCDMV Commissioner Paul Tine. “Our team is focused on quickly hiring and training examiners to improve service and reduce wait times for North Carolinians.”
