James Kent Strickland, 66, passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at Catawba Valley Medical Center.
Born on July 9, 1959, Kent was known for his gentle spirit, warm heart, and the kind of presence that made everyone feel at home. He loved nothing more than dropping by to visit family and friends, always ready to share a Diet Coke or a glass of sweet tea and a good conversation.
He was the son of the late O.B. Strickland and Inez Grace Lewis Strickland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Phillip Strickland, Tony Strickland, Richard Strickland, and his sister, Barbara Hamilton.
Kent is survived by his daughter, Joy Curry (LaVar); grandson, Trey Edwards; great-granddaughters, Evie and Ellie Edwards; and siblings, Libby Strickland, Doris Hines (Wayne), and Donna Strickland; and sister-in-law, Kathy Strickland. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and special friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Worthington Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery. Pastor Archie Paul Bullard will officiate.
The family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday from 10:00 am until 10:45 am at Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn.
Kent will be remembered for his kindness, love for family, and the quiet strength he carried through life. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
