Acme Delco Riegelwood firefighters had to move a grain trailer out of the way by hand Sunday to fight a structure fire on Kelly’s Trail. ADR Chief Steve Camin said the road to the home was blocked by the trailer. Fire units drove through fields to get to the blaze. The mother, father and newborn were unharmed.

Lake Waccamaw’s regularly scheduled monthly board meeting has been postponed to September 16th at 6:00 p.m. ColumbusCountyNews.com will live stream the meeting on our facebook page.

Tallis Jeremiah Vereen has been charged with the February murder of Ervin Hakeem Johnson. Vereen was arrested on unrelated charges days after Johnson was killed, and shortly before his body was found in a pond near the Johnson home.

Whiteville Police arrested a man for attempted murder Thursday after he slashed another man on J.K. Powell Boulevard. Altrell Baldwin, age 23, was held under no bond. He allegedly attacked James Walters. The victim was transported by private vehicle to Columbus Regional.
