Whiteville will hold a groundbreaking for the new park on the former Lewis Smith property at 10:00 a.m. on October 7, and the city is asking residents to vote on a potential new name for the park.  Go to the city’s website and click on the banner to vote. Deadline to vote is September 29.

Detectives raided a Singletary Road home in Pleasant Plains Wednesday after an extensive undercover investigation into alleged narcotics sales. Joe Russell Menser, age 42, was charged with felony cocaine possession, maintaining a dwelling for drug activity, possession of a stolen firearm and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Amber Muse is being held under $100,000 secured bond on arson charges. The Hallsboro woman allegedly set fire to her neighbor’s home on Bussy Road Saturday. No one was injured. It was the 11th time Muse has been arrested in 12 months.
