Chadbourn Camera Leads to Three-County Chase

Hayley Pittman and Christopher Deaver (CCSO)

Two suspects are in custody on a panoply of charges after a three-county chase that began in Chadbourn.

Christopher Steven Deaver, 35, and Haley Nicole Pittman, 29, were jailed Monday afternoon.

Deaver gave his address as 52 Rossie Cherry Rd., Whiteville. He was held without bond, due to a parole violation. He was charged with felony possession of cocaine, felony fleeing to elude, driving while license revoked, reckless driving to endanger, speeding, assault on a government official, possession of stolen goods, breaking, entering and larceny, felony larceny, and traffic violations. The charges came from Columbus, Bladen, Cumberland and Robeson counties.

Pittman listed her address on court documents as 514 Pridgen Rd., Lumberton. She faces charges of felony cocaine possession, felony aiding and abetting, fleeing to elude, conspiracy, possession of stolen goods, breaking and entering, felony larceny, and driving while license revoked. Her bond was set at $50,000.

Both suspects had outstanding warrants in other counties, according to court records.

The sheriff’s office reported that a Flock traffic camera in Chadbourn spotted the red Jeep Cherokee operated by Deaver and Pittman. Deputies spotted the vehicle near the Hasty Mart on Joe Brown Highway North, and attempted a traffic stop.

Deaver fled at a high rate of speed, leading officers from several agencies through Bladen, Columbus and Robeson counties at speeds of up to 122 miles per hour.

The suspects drove “recklessly through work zones and traffic,” the report said, and failed to stop at multiple stop signs and traffic lights.

Tire deflation devices flattened the tires on the passenger side of the Jeep, the report said, but Deaver allegedly continued to try to strike deputies who used a “rolling roadblock” to stop the fugitive vehicle. Both were taken into custody without further incident.

A search of the vehicle turned up cocaine, scales and other drug paraphernalia, the report said. The vehicle was seized under the state’s “Run and Done” law.
