News Briefs for October 19, 2025
It is the seventh anniversary of the murder of Trooper Kevin Conner. The trooper stopped a stolen pickup for speeding on U.S. 701 near the New Light community during the early morning hours. Raheem βLittle Murderβ Davis was driving the truck, and Chauncey Askew shot Conner at point blank range. Davis dropped Askew near Chadbourn, and Davis was caught after getting stuck on the railroad tracks in Fair Bluff while fleeing law enforcement.
Davis was scheduled to be released Tuesday after serving less than seven years behind bars for his role in the 2018 murder. Davis was held for 19 and a half months in prison and received credit for time served on a seven to nine year sentence. Davis was charged with murder, and later that was reduced to accessory after the fact. He also received five years and five months supervised post-release.
Askew pleaded guilty in January 2024 and received life without parole. He was facing the death penalty.
