Stallions Edge Devils 14-13; Rebels Blast West Columbus 49-14

At Red Springs, South Columbus almost let a two-touchdown lead slip away but held on in the end to beat Red Springs 14-13.

In a defensive battle, the Stallions led 7-0 at the half and scored on the first drive of the second half to take a 14-0 lead. Red Springs scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, one Chase Boone to Elijah Lowery and the second Boone to T.J. Ellerbe to close the score to 14-13. Red Springs had the ball at the Stallion 40 yard line when time expired.

South Columbus with the win goes to 2-0 in the Southeastern Conference and 4-3 overall. They will host South Brunswick (1-1, 4-3) on Oct. 17. Red Springs falls to 0-2 in the conference and 2-5 on the season. They will host West Bladen (0-2, 2-5) on Friday.

In Calypso, Carnell Phillips rushed for five touchdowns and 185 yards on 12 carries to lead North Duplin past West Columbus 49-14 on Friday night. Jalen Pope added 60 yards on four carries with a touchdown for the Rebels, now 2-1 in the Carolina Conference and 6-1 overall. They will travel to Union (0-3, 2-5) on Oct. 17. The Vikings fall to 1-3 in the conference and 1-6 overall. They will travel to Hobbton (3-0, 4-3) next Friday.
