Tabor Talk for Oct. 15

Greater Tabor City Chamber of Commerce

We are in mid-October and it’s time to decorate for the NC Yam Festival.  Many have already decorated for the fall season, so just add some yams and you’re all set!

We are already getting asked about our town’s Christmas events.  It is so awesome to know our community is all in!

If you are interested in participating in the Christmas Parade, please contact Dianne Nobles Ward, 910.653.4141 or 910.653.9712.  She is located in the Tabor City Visitors Center and would love to speak with you. She may have other information to share as well.

If you have questions about the Trim A Tree Christmas Decorating Contest, the Christmas Crafts Fair on Small Business Saturday, the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, or the Christmas Cookie Crawl, please call the GTC Chamber of Commerce Office at 910.377.3012.

GTC Chamber of Commerce is participating in the county-wide “Shop Our Stores” initiative on Small Business Saturday, Nov. 29 with an Inaugural Fall Crawl.  We will share the list of participating businesses in early to mid-November.  We are so excited about this event that encourages everyone to #ShopSmall and #ShopLocal.  More details to come after the NC Yam Festival.

Speaking of the NC Yam Festival, the Scholarship Pageant was held recently and there is a new Royal Court out representing the festival, Tabor City, Columbus County and North Carolina.  Thank you to these amazing young ladies.

Taste of Tabor tickets are now for sale.  Tickets are $30 in advance/$35 at the door for ages 11 and up, $12 in advance/$15 at the door for ages 7-10, and ages 6 and under are free. The location will be 1861 Ten Mile Road, Tabor City, from 6-9 p.m. A fun-filled evening with great food, live entertainment provided by the Crenshaw Trucking Band, and great fellowship is planned for everyone that attends.  A photo opportunity will be available. Tickets may be purchased from the Tabor City Public Library (Yam Fest Headquarters) or the Yam Festival Office.

The NC Yam Festival will be accepting entries, beginning this Friday, Oct. 17, for the Sweet Potato Quality Contest which will be judged on Monday, Oct. 20.  Tuesday holds the judging of the Display Contest, the Sweet Potato Cook Off Contest, and the Paint A Yam Man Class, and more.
