News Briefs for November 28, 2025
Whiteville City Council on Tuesday offered to work with the owners of a vacant lot on Caldis Street, but refused to purchase the property. Mayor Terry Mann encouraged the families to donate the property to the city.
The board also heard an update from Emergency Services Director Hal Lowder on efforts by the county beaver board to improve the run of Soules Swamp. So far 13 beavers have been trapped, and dams will soon be cleared using heavy equipment. The channel will be widened to 12 feet to improve flow.
The REAL Whiteville Santa, Dwight Burleson, was honored by Whiteville City Council. Santa retired this year due to health reasons. He received a standing ovation from the packed council chambers.
