Almost 24 hours after she disappeared, Jettie Edwards was found hiding in a large bale of hay near her home.

”She’s healthy and safe,” said Sheriff Bill Rogers just after 7:30 p.m.

Jettie had taken shelter in her aunt’s horse barn, a short distance from the Deerfield community on Hallsboro Road South, Rogers said.

Jettie, 15, vanished from her home around 9 p.m. Tuesday, wearing only jeans and a sweatshirt. Family members say she is autistic.

Temperatures dropped to the upper 20s last night while searchers with drones, helicopters and tracking dogs hunted for the girl. Around 200 people tuned out for a ground search Wednesday, covering the entire area at twenty-foot intervals.

Search efforts continued into this evening as crews became more concerned that Jettie would be suffering from hypothermia.

“This is just a blessing,” Rogers said.
