WHITEVILLE – In boys’ basketball, Whiteville struggled to get the offense going but it was enough as the Wolfpack defeated East Bladen 56-45 on Friday night.

The Pack jumped out on the Eagles 20-9 early in the first quarter only to play on even terms the rest of the way. The Pack would make runs but couldn’t shake East Bladen. East Bladen cut the lead to 28-21 early in the third quarter, causing Whiteville’s Coach Rose to call a timeout. The time out got the Wolfpack on the right track as they went on a 9-0 run to push the lead to 37-21 with 4:57 left in the third quarter, only to have the Eagles continuing to stay pesky for the rest of the contest.

Travionne Williams had 23 points to lead the Wolfpack. The Wolfpack (3-2) face Cape Fear Academy (5-7) Saturday at 3:30 at North Myrtle Beach High School, SC, in the Shootout By The Sea Basketball Classic.

Keyshawn Kemp led the Eagles with 17 points in the loss. Aking Elting’s East Bladen Eagles fall to 0-7 on the season. The Eagle start Carolina Conference play Thursday when they will take on Hobbton (1-5).
